Resettling in the U.S.

Welcoming Refugees

When refugees come to the United States through the U.S. Resettlement Program, they are assisted by one of 10 voluntary agencies. Staff members from these agencies work with volunteers to prepare a safe and comfortable apartment for the refugees’ arrival. Resettlement agencies provide not only housing for the refugees’ initial period in the United States, but also assist refugees with finding employment, enrolling children in school, and learning about their new community.

To learn more about refugee resettlement, visit the voluntary agency web sites. The agencies encourage community involvement by volunteers. Contact a refugee resettlement office if you are interested in contributing to the welcome refugees receive in your community.
