Tips
- Do not offer money to any staff representing agencies processing
refugees, including JVA, UNHCR, U.S.CIS, IOM and others. The services
provided to refugees by these agencies are always free!
If anyone requests payment for any kind of refugee processing, for expediting
or influencing your case processing, or for offering you advice, he or she
is breaking the law and trying to exploit refugees. Please report any requests
for payment to JVA/Nairobi. Include your name and address in the message. Reporting
fraud or corruption will not be used against you and will in no way affect
your family's application.
- Always tell the truth. All interviewers are trained to assess the
credibility of each refugee's story, and to listen for inconsistencies.
Tell your own story, and be totally truthful at all times.
- Contact the local
affiliate office of your resettlement agency when seeking information
about relatives for whom you have filed an AOR. Applicants
only may contact the JVA directly by post at:
Church World Service/JVA Nairobi
P.O. Box 14176
Nairobi, Westlands 00800
When making an inquiry, please provide the following information:
- The three (if applicable) full names, and place/date of birth
of the Principal Applicant as it appears on the AOR.
- The three (if applicable) full names of the anchor.
- The case number (if available).
- The anchor alien (“A”) number.
- Present location/mailing address.
This information will assist in searching for records pertaining to
your family's case. We also ask that you keep your voluntary agency (VOLAG)
aware of any changes of address pertaining to you or your family members.
